‍You may not be aware that North London is actually relatively small in terms of boroughs. There’s only three, in fact: Haringey, Barnet and Enfield. However, many locals still include Camden and Islington in that list despite those boroughs having officially been part of Central London since 2011.

There is a tonne of history around here. For instance, North London features one of the city’s most famous landmarks – Alexandra Palace. Now a popular music and arts venue, it was originally built in 1873 and can proudly lay claim to being the site of the first-ever television broadcast in 1936.

When the Regents Canal was completed in 1820, North London began to expand. The development of a railway network followed, and the area quickly became a commuter suburb – a label that certainly reigns true today. This was thanks largely to mass housing developments instigated by the Victorians – the results of which can still be seen across Highbury and Stoke Newington.

Following the Victorians’ lead, the Edwardians built lots of north London’s iconic terraced-style homes. You can find countless examples of their building prowess across Crouch End, Finchley and the Hampstead Garden Suburb.
