North London
You may not be aware that North London is actually relatively small in terms of boroughs. There’s only three, in fact: Haringey, Barnet and Enfield. However, many locals still include Camden and Islington in that list despite those boroughs having officially been part of Central London since 2011.
There is a tonne of history around here. For instance, North London features one of the city’s most famous landmarks – Alexandra Palace. Nowa popular music and arts venue, it was originally built in 1873 and can proudly lay claim to being the site of the first-ever television broadcast in 1936.
When the Regents Canal was completed in 1820, North London began to expand. The development of a railway network followed, and the area quickly became a commuter suburb – a label that certainly reigns true today. This was thanks largely to mass housing developments instigated by the Victorians – the results of which can still be seen across Highbury and Stoke Newington.
Following the Victorians’ lead, the Edwardians built lots of north London’s iconic terraced-style homes. You can find countless examples of their building prowess across Crouch End, Finchley and the Hampstead Garden Suburb.

North London is the place the SweepSmart team calls home. It’s where the parents of our founders grew up. Mother SweepSmart (that’s not her real name) grew up in Angel Islington and Father SweepSmart (likewise) spent his formative years in Finsbury Park.

It’s the rich tapestry of North London that makes it a joy to work in for the SweepSmart team. Take Hampstead village, for instance, with its unique village feel, tree-lined groves and pretty streets; it’s no wonder it has provided inspiration for some of the most world’s most famous artists and poets including Byron, Keats and H. G. Wells.
We can’t really finish talking about North London without mentioning the two Premier League football clubs that often dominate the conversation around here: Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. However, you won’t need to worry about letting a fierce rival into your home when you employ the services of SweepSmart – we’re not a fan of either club.
